Sat in on Mel Carson‘s talk on The Marriage of Social & PR, a highly educational session which provided actionable insights for marketers dealing in social and PR. Here’s a quick recap. 

The Marriage of Social & PR

People spend 27% of their time on social media (Am pretty sure this stat is higher for someone like me :P).

Inbound marketing refers to a combination of PR & social media or all the “free” traffic sources.

Altimeter and Social Bakers are some social measurement tools.

The DNA of successful and enduring digital content is:

  • Authentic
  • Useful
  • Relevant
  • Actionable

The science of great content or what goes into a tweet:

  • Customer-centric
  • Emotion
  • Real-time
  • Affordable
  • Actionable
  • Measurable

Google Alert and Followerwonk are some free tools to use for social media monitoring.

In your social media platforms, include a URL into descriptions to drive people back to your blog.

Not quite as good as the live presentation, but second best is better than nothing. Look through Mel’s presentation slides on Slideshare for more details on what was covered during his presentation!
